  • What type of insulation do I need?

This is based on budget and application.

We base insulation on three levels:

    Level Three: fiberglass batts

Level Two: hybrid types, such as Rockwool or Thermafiber

Level One: Closed Cell foam, also referred to as rigid foam

The type of insulation you need is based on budget and application. Contact us today to speak with a home insulation contractor about your specific project.

  • What are the benefits of Closed Cell foam?

Describe the item or answer the question so that site visitors who are interested get more information. You can emphasize this text with bullets, italics or bold, and add links.
  • Are there different types of foam insulation?

There are two types. Open Cell and Closed Cell. For our region we are strictly Closed Cell. Open Cell does not provide any type of vapor barrier and will absorb moisture. Although we have people in our industry that will offer it in these types of conditions they are completely wrong and should never recommend this product in a coastal environment.

  • What should we look for in an insulation contractor?

Describe the item or answer the question so that site visitors who are interested get more information. You can emphasize this text with bullets, italics or bold, and add links.
  • I was told my house has to breathe. Is that true?

Yes, it's true! It's also the reason our slogan is Build Tight, Vent Right.

  • What is an ERV?

ERV stands for energy recovery ventilator. It exchanges stale indoor air for filtered, fresh outdoor air. An ERV is a go-to product when considering spray foam insulation for your home's entire envelope.

  • My HVAC contractor has proposed installing our new system in our attic. Is this recommended?

While it's not recommended, you may have no choice due to room restrictions. Your HVAC contractor should advise you that this isn't the optimal location, and you may want to consider converting to a conditioned attic. Doing so will help you to achieve optimal efficiency from your new system.

  • What can you tell me about off gassing?

Once the product is cured, there is no off gassing. However, if improperly applied, the product can have off gassing issues due to the off-ratio foam. This is why it's extremely important to choose an experienced home insulation contractor.

The specialists at AICS Atlantic Insulation and Construction Services have been properly trained and certified to ensure proper application.

  • Can I apply insulation myself?

While you can purchase supplies at stores or online, we don't recommend doing the application yourself. Insulation is not a DIY project, and it requires proper training and knowledge of any chemicals you may encounter.

  • Does spray foam contain formaldehyde?

No, today's spray foam insulation does not contain formaldehyde.

  • Do I need a vapor barrier?

Possibly, but it is on a case-by-case scenario. Not all crawlspaces need a vapor barrier. Our staff can inspect your crawlspace and provide you with the best plan. Caution: vapor barriers have become an easy sale for various contractors such as pest control companies, handyman services, etc. A good amount of what we see are homes that did not warrant a vapor barrier.
